Deadline said yesterday that Apple had given a straight to series order to the psychological thriller “Surface” starring English actress Gugu Mbatha (“The Morning Show”).
Mbatha-Raw has landed the lead role in this eight-part series from High Fidelity co-creator and executive producer Veronica West. The series was created and written by West, who has also written on shows like “Brothers & Sisters”, “GCB” and “State of Affairs”. She will executive-produce this project alongside Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter of Hello Sunshine.

The streamer has handed a straight-to-series order for Surface, which comes from Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine and Apple Studios. Apple didn’t disclose any other details or logline for the project.
Production is slated to begin next year, but no other details about this upcoming project could be learned at publication time.
