iOS 11-based Electra jailbreak updated to v2.0 with improved bootstrap, tweak injection, & more

Earlier in the month, Chimera Team lead developer CoolStar announced a fresh version of the iOS 12-centric Chimera jailbreak tool with support for the Procursus bootstrap, libhooker tweak injection, and a whole host of back-ported improvements that derived from the newer Odyssey jailbreak. Now, it seems the older iOS 12-based  Electra jailbreak tool is receiving a similar treatment.

As shared early this morning in CoolStar’s official Sileo / Odyssey / Chimera Discord server, the Electra jailbreak has been officially updated to version 2.0 with an upgraded Chimera bootstrap with libhooker tweak injection and other miscellaneous improvements:

The full change log is as follows:

  • Now ships only with Sileo
  • Ships with Sileo 1.9.1 (the latest version to support iOS 11)
  • Update to Chimera bootstrap
  • Update to libhooker
  • Backport fixes from Chimera 1.5 / Odyssey
  • Auto-selectra from async_wake/mach_swap/mach_swap2

One thing you’ll notice right off the bat is that Electra has received the Chimera bootstrap and not the Procursus bootstrap, Likely due to compatibility concerns. This means that Electra should now be as reliable as the Chimera jailbreak before it was updated to version 1.5 earlier in the month, and it also gains the performance advantages of libhooker and Sileo for tweak injection and management.

CoolStar goes on to explain that the Electra jailbreak is still at its end of life (EOL), and that it won’t receive additional support. Instead, this is expected to be the final update to prevent the jailbreak from being broken out of the box, a potential win for iOS 11 users who’d rather not use unc0ver for any reason.

Furthermore, the jaikbreak now exclusively installs the Sileo package manager, removing Cydia from the equation. This may not sit well with all users, but follow-up comments by CoolStar that we’ve redacted due to profanity suggest that Cydia will never be supported on Electra again due to CoolStar’s long-standing distaste for the competing package manager.

If you’re using an older version of the Electra jaolbreak tool or you wish to use it to jaibreak iOS 11 for the first time, then you can grab version 2.0 from coolstar.org/Electra. Please note that the jailbreak may not receive any further updates.
