How to enable Wi-Fi Calling on your iPhone

If you’re in a location with poor cellular service or none at all, but can connect to Wi-Fi, consider using it for calls on your iPhone. Once enabled, you can make and receive calls without worrying about the cell signal.

Here, we’ll show you what you need to know before you use Wi-Fi Calling on iPhone and how to enable it for your iPhone and other devices.

Be sure to review these items before enabling the this calling feature on your iPhone.

  • Your carrier must support Wi-Fi Calling. Check the Apple Support site for your country and carrier.
  • You need to use an iPhone 5c or later.
  • You may need to enter or verify your address for emergency calls which normally use cellular service.

Enable Wi-Fi Calling on iPhone

You’ll head to your iPhone Settings to enable Wi-Fi Calling and can turn on the feature in one of two different spots.

1) In your Settings, do one of the following:

  • Select Cellular, tap Wi-Fi Calling, and enable the toggle for Wi-Fi Calling on This iPhone.
  • Select Phone, tap Wi-Fi Calling, and enable the toggle for Wi-Fi Calling on This iPhone.

2) You’ll then need to confirm that you want to turn Wi-Fi Calling on, tap Enable.

3) If prompted, enter or verify your address for the Emergency 911 Address. You can change this on the same Wi-Fi Calling settings screen later if needed by tapping Update Emergency Address.

Enable Wi-Fi Calling for other devices

If you use your iPad or Mac with your iPhone to make and receive calls, you can enable the this feature for those devices too. Just make sure you’re signed in with the same iCloud account as your iPhone.

1) Head back to the Wi-Fi Calling area in your Cellular or Phone settings and enable the toggle for Add Wi-Fi Calling For Other Devices.

2) If prompted, read the terms and conditions, and tap Continue.

3) To view, add, or edit the other devices you use for calls, do one of the following:

  • Select Cellular, tap Calls on Other Devices, and enable the toggles for the devices you want to use.
  • Select Phone, tap Calls on Other Devices, and enable the toggles for the devices you want to use.
