Trouble picking the perfect wallpaper for your pwned iPhone? DoABarrelWall can help

Selecting a wallpaper for your iPhone can be one of the most intimate manners of customization that you’ll get to experience, and that’s because it’s a personalized image that you’ll see every time you pick up your handset to start using it.

The primary concern with choosing a wallpaper, however, is that the quest to find the right one can be daunting. Whether you’re struggling to find one you like or you simply can’t make up your mind with regard to several that you like, choosing a wallpaper poses a unique set of challenges for the indecisive.

DoABarrelWall is a newly released and free jailbreak tweak by iOS developer denial that seeks to address the above issue(s) by letting you choose a myriad of different wallpapers that will cycle each and every time you unlock your device or visit the Home Screen after closing an app.

We’re huge fans of this approach to wallpaper selection because it allows the user to set more than one image they like and have them all appear throughout the day as they use their handset. Setting DoABarrelWall up is super easy too, as the developer adds a preference pane to the Settings app to do exactly that:

Here, users can:

  • Toggle Lock Screen wallpaper cycling on or off on demand
  • Toggle Home Screen wallpaper cycling on or off on demand
  • Keep both the Lock Screen and Home Screen wallpapers in sync as they cycle
  • Dim the wallpapers when Do Not Disturb mode is turned on
  • Configure the wallpaper images you wish to use:
    • Add a new image from your Camera Roll
    • Remove images you don’t wish to see anymore
    • Save images and respring your device
  • Reset all options to their defaults

It’s very important to note that you must save and respring each time you add a new wallpaper image. Without doing so, the tweak will not remember your newly added images and you’ll have to add them all over again.

As much as we like the DoABarrelWall tweak, it’s probably important that we address the elephant in the room, and that’s the question of whether or not the tweak will have a significant impact on battery life. In an ideal scenario, it shouldn’t, but if you respring your device a lot, lock and unlock often, or close apps frequently, then this forced the wallpaper to cycle more frequently and you may see a slightly degraded battery life expectancy. Use your iPhone normally, however, and you shouldn’t notice it.

Those interested in trying the new DoABarrelWall tweak can download it for free from denial’s personal repository via your favorite package manager. The tweak supports jailbroken iOS 13 and 14 devices.

If you’re not already using denial’s repository, then you can add it to your package manager of choice via the following URL:
