New report says Apple is going to launch a new iPad Pro ‘as early as April’

There were a lot of rumors pointing to a late March unveiling for new Apple-branded hardware. Including a new iPad Pro. However, with the end of the month quickly closing in, it’s starting to look like that might not be the case. So now all eyes are on April.

Earlier today, for instance, there was a report saying just that. Apple now plans on launching a new iPad Pro, which may feature a mini-LED display, at some point in the month of April. It’s possible it’s at the beginning of the month. Now, Bloomberg is helping out with its own report today, saying the same thing.

According to the information shared by the publication, Apple is ready to move ahead with the launch of the new iPad Pro “as early as April”, but no exact date was provided. The report states that Apple’s been happy with the sales of its tablet lineup so far, especially as an essential work-from-home device.

As far as what’s new, Bloomberg says the new iPad Pro will offer up an improved camera experience, and that the new tablet will boast a faster processor under the hood. There will be two models, as is par for the course, with a new 12.9-inch model and an 11-inch variant as well. However, no physical design changes.

Unsurprisingly, the new iPad Pro will have a processor that’s “on par” with the M1 processor Apple launched in the new MacBook Air and MacBook Pro late last year. Interestingly, the report says that Apple has used Thunderbolt as the connector, which enables more external connectivity and syncs data faster.

From the report:

In testing, the new iPad Pros have used a Thunderbolt connector, the same port on the latest Macs with custom Apple processors. The port doesn’t require new chargers, but it would enable connectivity with additional external monitors, hard drives and other peripherals. It’s also faster at syncing data than the USB-C technology used in the current models.

No specific mention of Apple adopting a mini-LED display for the new models, though. A previous rumor suggested that Apple may use the newer display option only in the 12.9-inch model, with the 11-inch variant sticking with the current display technology.

Apple last updated the iPad Pro lineup in March of 2020, so it’s about time for Apple to get its refresh hat on. And now it looks like we can expect to see the new iPad Pro in April. Are you planning on upgrading to the new model whenever Apple announces it?
