Anyone using the Chimera jailbreak for iOS 12, the Odyssey jailbreak for iOS 13, the Taurine jailbreak for iOS 14, or the Odysseyra1n bootstrap on a checkra1n’d device will almost certainly want to launch the included Sileo package manager and refresh their sources this morning, as it appears that a new version of libhooker is now available in the form of version 1.5.5.
Libhooker is the premiere tweak injection method for the aforementioned jailbreaks, and this means that all your jailbreak tweaks and extensions depend on it to hook into system processes and make their intended magic happen.
Libhooker developer CoolStar announced the latest update to the tweak injection method and what was new with it early Wednesday morning via the Sileo / Taurine / Odyssey Discord channel:
Citing the change log, we can gather that libhooker version 1.5.5 incorporates the following changes:
– Performance and battery life improvements (Taurine users should pair this update with Taurine version 1.0.2 or later to take advantage of this)
– Add support for hooking shorter functions
– Fix edge cases with hooking certain functions
– Add other secret goodies, such as maXscale support
Given the importance of libhooker on those jailbreaks that support it, we recommend that anyone using the Chimera, Odyssey, or Taurine jailbreaks (including Odysseyra1n) download and install the latest update at their earliest convenience.
Given the stigma that jailbreaking often has with relation to stability and battery life, which may or may not hold any water depending on the number of jailbreak tweaks you have installed at any given time, it’s a good idea to take advantage of updates that claim to improve these attributes.
If you’re using one of the supported jailbreaks above, then the new libhooker update is available from the Odyssey repository. You may need to refresh your sources to see it.
